This rare antique knife is in very nice condition, showing light scuffing and normal wear. 875 silver handle and a gold gilt blade and measures 12 long.
The knife bears the mark for the. Grachev of St Petersburg, who were who ceased business in 1918. There is a slight ding on the top of the handle, some scuffs at the base of the blade, and a slight pit near the tip of the blade. Any flaws are minor and the knife displays well. A little about the Grachev Brothers. Spite of being a small factory, the exceptional quality of the Grachev Brothers work earned the company many commissions from the royal houses of Europe. The firm became a principal supplier to the King of Denmark, the Russian Imperial Court, and the King of England amongst others, and their popularity even rivalled Carl Fabergé. They were so renowned that they even earned prizes in the 1893 Chicago World's Fair... Which may be how this piece found it's way here, as I live right outside of Chicago. The factory operated until the final year of the First World War, closing in early 1918. Please see all pictures for additional details.
